Meet the Blue Earth Farm Family

The Austin Kitchen Gardner Family

  • Hello, I am Javier Gonzalez, farmer at Blue Earth Farm and owner of The Austin Kitchen Gardener. I design and install edible gardens for local restaurants and homes, and I am passionate about helping people grow their own food. It has been a lifelong dream to start my own farm and I am grateful I can put my knowledge and experience into our own 10 acre farmstead.

I'm an Austin native and life-long organic gardener, learning first from my mother as a kid and later while working with the awesome folks at The Natural Gardener

I’ve been growing veggies for many years and I'm always researching organic techniques and permaculture design, all while learning directly from nature through my own experience in the garden. I’m always experimenting with new ideas and new techniques to find what works best for our challenging and unpredictable Central Texas climate. I am also the welder, animal herder and fence builder.

  • Hi, I am Joanna, farm manager and bee keeper at Blue Earth Farm. I am a licensed social worker and recently left my job as the director of Girl Scouts Beyond Bars to start our family farm with Javi full time.  I believe in social justice, caring for our community and treating everyone with love and respect. Growing healthy food to share is one of my greatest joys. I believe what is good for the Earth, is good for the animals, is good for the land, is good for our health, which is good for our community. I like giving our pigs too many snacks and checking on my bees.

I grew up in Buda and attended Hays High school and it is good to be back home. I met Javi when we both worked at Thundercloud Subs over 11 years ago in a very Austin love story. I have learned so much about how to live a positive life from him. We have two amazing daughters, Clara and Lucy.

  • Hi, I am Clara. I want to be an artist. I am really good at catching the chickens when they get out and I love cats. I am good at taking photos and reading.
  • Hi, I am Lucy. I want to be a ballerina when I grow up. I am good at making beautiful bouquets and fresh squeezed lemonade. I love flowers.
